my story

My story begins when I turned three years old. That may sound like an early age for a chiropractic story to begin, but as you read on, it will become obvious why it isn’t. My uncle, who is a chiropractor, graduated from chiropractic college when I was three. At that time my mother was suffering from migraine headaches and lower back pain. After one very bad bout with lower back pain she wondered if chiropractic could help her. My uncle explained to her that chiropractic was never designed to treat migraines or backaches. Even though those conditions responded well under chiropractic care, chiropractic care was designed to remove subluxations from the spine. Subluxation is a condition where the spine alters the nerve pathways that carry vital nerve signals needed by the body to perform optimally. When subluxations are present the body is in a lowered state of health and function. That was my mom’s case and she saw wonderful results under chiropractic care. But what about me? Well my uncle explained that during the birth process the head is pulled on, turned and twisted and these typical birthing procedures could do damage to the infants spine. Many times that damage will not be realized until months or years afterwards. Besides, my mom wanted her child to grow up with a healthy spine and nerve system. That’s when I was checked for subluxation, at three years old, and my uncle did indeed find several subluxations. He began the process of correcting my subluxations and my mom brought me in regularly to see my uncle so that I would develop into a healthy boy.

For most of my childhood I had spinal check-ups and I was adjusted when needed. I went away to college on a football scholarship and that’s when I stopped seeing my uncle. Unfortunately, that’s the time I needed him most. Playing college football subjected me to all kinds of physical stress. Sleeping on dormitory mattresses and studying over books for long hours didn’t help my spine either. During this time my health was not nearly as good as it had been my whole childhood. In fact, it was lousy. I never put two and two together. It never dawned on me that the stress on my spine had caused more subluxations and that this was affecting my overall health. When I returned home after college I once again began to see my uncle for regular adjustments. Lo and behold, my health and vitality returned. That’s when it dawned on me. When I wasn’t taking care of my spine and nerve system the subluxations caused a lower state of health and resistance in my body. When I started up care again, my health and resistance returned. Well, that was enough for me. I made the decision to go to chiropractic college myself and I did just that!
